Tutoring Style and/or Experience
I graduated with a BA in Astrophysics from Williams College and now I am in graduate school at Boston University. Between the end of college and the beginning of graduate school, I found a way to fuse my love for science and for kids by teaching elementary school science in a private school in New York City - trying to make little astrophysicists:). I have privately tutored many students as well between the ages of 7 and 16 in math and the sciences.
I aim to motivate students to be able to see and make connections between what they learn in the books and the real world. By combining critical thinking, estimation and problem-solving skills, with good work ethic, organization and determination, students can make significant improvement in their work. I love to make jokes (even though many of my students said they were corny), I am outgoing, playful and just enjoy the company of children and adults.
From my experience, I learnt that creativity such as the incorporation diverse activities to engage students lights the fire of enthusiasm for learning. In addition, I acknowledge the various learning styles of students and will maintain effective lines of communication with students and parents. When faced with challenges, my experience has proven that positive interaction leads to speedy resolution.
I recognize that once learning is facilitated rather than dictated, students will become more confident and better able to construct their learning experiences. I enjoy working with children and young adults, and I hope to inspire and nurture a love for learning and a constant desire for knowledge in each student.
