I am especially good at finding what makes a learner "click." I'm fun to work with and I believe in positive reinforcement. Everyone can learn; it's a matter of understanding learning styles and building confidence.

Elementary/Middle School Math: I was a terrible math student when I was young, so I really understand where kids "go wrong" with concepts and applications. Many "math experts" are, in fact, not great teachers because they lack an understanding of how children mangle various concepts.

Remedial Reading and Phonics: I am one of five professional one-on-one reading tutors in the Reading Power program in North Chicago's public schools. (On the web at: www.readingpowerinc.com) This highly successful program is based on Reading Recovery, which is used in many school systems to boost struggling early readers.

Writing at all levels: I excel at helping students understand how to organize thinking, expand vocabulary, and transform their thinking into logical sequences on paper. I have had measurable success in preparing students to take the ACT writing test, and have also improved the writing performance of my younger students.

I have helped my high school students raise their English, Reading, and Writing scores on the ACT by an average of four points.

I have State of Illinois endorsements to teach Language Arts, Biological Sciences and Social Studies at the Middle School level.
