Tutoring Style and/or Experience
My name is Ashley Olson and I am a graduate from Brigham Young University’s history teaching program. I also have a background in math. I am passionate about teaching and am dedicated to the success of my students. I enjoy working with the youth of today and would like to contribute to your student's success. I provide variety in instruction and assessment to cater to diverse learners. I believe in providing higher level thinking opportunities in the classroom and interactive learning including hands on activities to get the students involved in the curriculum. I bring the experience of living abroad; I lived in Hungary for a year and a half as I performed service for my church. As a result of this experience I also speak Hungarian.
For the past year I have been working at Mystic Valley Regional Charter School in Malden, MA. I teach 9th and 10th grade U.S. and World history classes. I have tried to provide a variety of experiences to teach the students by using technology, projects, guest speakers, field trips, film clips, supplemental reading, and group oriented work. Along with covering the curriculum, I have tried to raise awareness in my classes on how the students can get involved in their communities and make a difference in society. I have tried to raise awareness on career opportunities that deal with such topics as well for the students to consider. I have also worked hard to expand the opportunities of the students. This school offers close to no electives and absolutely nothing musical. I started a chorus and music program at the school to help the students broaden their experience through music. I had the opportunity in my student teaching experience to team teach Utah history. We worked closely with our cooperating teacher and had weekly meetings with professors on campus to discuss new ideas and issues in the classroom. Through these experiences I came to realize just how valuable an asset collaborating with fellow educators and community can be.
I would like to contribute my skills to your organization and the students of the area. I am committed to helping today’s youth and I would enjoy the opportunity to work with students on a more individual level.
Thank you for your time,
Ashley Olson
