Tutoring Style and/or Experience
Writing is the foundation for educational success.
As a university journalism professor, I have taught hundreds of students in my nearly 20 years of teaching. They have gone on to careers in journalism, education, law, public relations, business, nursing, and a host of other fields.
As a parent, my two oldest daughters were reading and writing before they entered kindergarten. After stellar high school experiences, they have gone on to major, prestigious universities where one is a graduate student in film school and the other a sophomore English major. They have both been published, with the younger one winning a national magazine writing contest when she was in middle school. Writing was the foundation for their success, keyed by parental commitment. Your commitment is apparent by your seeking a tutor for your child or yourself.
My approach to building a solid writing foundation for new students is to first review their written work, then address whatever challenges apparent in their writing. Whether it is grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, organization, spelling, story ideas -- I work with my students to strengthen their writing. I don't make inflated promises about test scores rising like a rocket. I only promise that students who make the commitment to work with me will leave this tutoring experience as better, stronger, confident writers ready for the world.
One last note: I am also a writer and columnist whose work has appeared in books, journals, magazines, and newspapers throughout the country.
