Mr Stephen H. Tutor Profile
Tutor Personal Information
Tutoring Style and/or Experience
I was a teaching assistant (TA) and instructor for undergraduate and graduate subjects at MIT. I tutored middle school, high school, undergraduate, and graduate students privately for several years. Subjects included math (from middle school to high school competition preparation), chemistry (SAT II, AP), physics (SAT II, AP, undergrad, MCAT), calculus (AP, undergrad), engineering (undergrad, grad). I have also organized my department's TA Workshop for the past two years and organized a teaching seminar at MIT this past semester.
At the first few tutoring sessions, I discover the student's learning style and I adjust accordingly. I prefer to see the lessons as discussions and an opportunity for the students to discover on their own through my guidance. I have a bag of interesting problems to show students, which we then work through together. Teaching is most effective when it's fun and interactive!
My first session is always free of charge to give the student and/or parent/guardian an opportunity to judge whether I am an effective teacher. Rates are negotiated after the first session.
Resume, references, and test scores are available upon request.
