I have taught high school math in a christian school for 6 years until leaving 1.5 years ago. I taught pre-cal, AP Calculus AB, Algebra and Algebra III.
I have a degree in Electrical Engineering from UCSD with minors in math and music. I also have some graduate work in education from the University of Florida. In the past I have also taught at the University of Florida (an engineering course) and have been a t.a. for mathematical physics at UCSD. I have also worked as an engineer for SAIC.
My tutoring philosopy is that many students don't understand mathematical language, so at first, I try to keep it as simple as possible. Also some will need more repitition. I ask a lot of questions during a session to see if they are understanding. I will usually watch them do their homework, suggest changes and before a test it is helpful to go over the major areas I would expect to be covered. I am currently tutoring people in Algebra 2 honors, college algebra and geometry. I am homeschooling a 10th grader and we are doing Algebra 2. In the past I have also helped with pre-cal and Calculus. I love Calculus!
