Tutoring Style and/or Experience
My desire to become an English teacher and a tutor stemmed from my desire to write. Born to journalist parents, books have surrounded me ever since I could remember. Lined with bookcases, my parent’s living room has always given me its endless company. After graduating from college, I did not know where I would go, but I always knew I would work with books no matter what.
After graduating from Purchase College, State University of New York with a degree in Literature, I worked for Random House, Inc. as a sales assistant. When it dawned on me that I rather teach books than sell them, I left; a few years later, I pursued my Master of Science in Teaching at Potsdam College, State University of New York. I will be completing my degree in December 2002 and getting certified in Secondary English, grades 7-12 shortly afterwards.
The approach I have as a tutor is that not all kids will love, or even like, English; but it is my job to help them learn of its importance. Hence, by providing interesting and focused lessons, demonstrating a complete understanding of the subject, and maintaining an environment conducive to learning, I can ensure that your child will be encouraged to both learn and grow as an student under my guidance. As a result, s/he will be able to view English as a relevant, if not meaningful, pursuit.
