Tutoring Style and/or Experience
I believe in creating connections during learning to real world problems and between academic disciplines in a meaningful and joyous way: the highest achievement occurs when the student is unafraid of making a mistake and lessons are challenging, but fun! For instance, while studying the solar system in science, I always emphasize how it is related to math by having students create charts from statistics about the size, temperature, and distance statistics of the other planets to emphasize the differences and similarities between them and the Earth. Science is related to reading and language by emphasizing prefixes and suffixes of scientific terms and we explore science in our own lives and real world situations by having the student give me an example from their everyday life to ascertain that they understand concepts being taught (for example, when studying velocity, the student might make the connection that there is a scientific method to explore how fast a ball traveled when it was thrown while the student was playing baseball, or why different driving speeds result in various arrival times by the bus driver each day.)
