Lots of patience and a good sense of humor. The first step is to make the student comfortable, then attempt to find out what the roadblock/source of frustration is. From there, we will work to overcome that roadblock and help the student gain mastery of the subject matter.
Once mastery is acheived, the student should be able to handle more advanced material in that subject area.
I have experience in working with At-Risk students and remedial students. I have mainly worked with 6th through college, but after helping my own children, I would feel comfortable helping younger students.
