Tutoring Style and/or Experience

I am open to tutoring in math, science, and/or test preparation. In the past, I have tutoring high school students in chemistry both in groups and individually. I have also taught SAT Prep to talented students in the Boston area. When tutoring, I focus on identifying problem areas by asking students to complete practice problems or explain concepts, if they are comfortable doing so. I emphasize student understanding as opposed to only completing practice problems, which I do use to assess understanding. In the past, students have told me that though they did not understand a single concept when their teachers or professors were teaching, when they had even half an hour with me, everything made much more sense. I also strongly emphasize students thinking on their own, with my guidance. I have worked with students in middle and high school, and both gifted and remedial students.
