Tutoring Style and/or Experience
My tutoring style begins by discussing the areas the student feels they are having the most difficult with in school. I will use the textbooks required by them by the school district and create mini-lessons. The mini-lessons will be with me providing an example, tool or technique that will help them where they are struggling. We will then work together through a number of other examples to ensure the student is grasping the information. Repetition is the key and we will work through different types of problems until he/she understands what is being asked. I will then provide examples for independent practice and require the student to attempt to work through an entire question before asking for help. We will then evaluate the student's advancement with the tool or technique. Depending on the student's advancement we will either continue to practice or move onto the next area the student is struggling with. I feel that the schools are rushed in the classroom to complete standards required to complete, therefore, I will be an outside source to allow for more time in areas that students struggle and we will not move on until the student feels confident in the area. I will also use the lessons as ladders. In other words, we will continue to practice previous lessons to ensure the student understands even after it is not fresh in their mind.
