About the Founder:

Born in Sacramento, CA. Kristen Kelly attended Christian Brothers High School. While in high school, Kristen volunteered as a tutor for elementary school students in low-income households around the Sacramento area. Upon graduating from High school with a 4.2 GPA, Kristen went on to attend Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. While a student at Spelman, Kristen continued to volunteer as a tutor for low-income families in the Atlanta area. In 2006, Kristen graduated from Spelman, Magna Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science.

Following her matriculation at Spelman College, upon relocating to Los Angeles, California, Kristen worked in various areas of the educational world. In conjunction with serving as a Private Consultant to assist Charter Schools with updating their curriculum, Kristen worked as an Intervention Specialist, providing students with the greatest learning challenges the extra one-on-one assistance needed to help them reach their maximum learning potential. During this time Kristen continued to work as a tutor for low-income families throughout the Los Angeles area.

In an effort to continue her work in education, Kristen created the Little Smarties Tutoring Service in 2008 to further aid students, both adolescent and adult, in need of extra assistance in their academic endeavors. Now serving not only Los Angeles but surrounding cities as well, Little Smarties is helping students of all ages achieve their academic potential.


The Little Smarties Tutoring Philosophy:

We at the Little Smarties Tutoring Service believe it is essential to understand that all students learn differently; thus, every session is formatted to meet each student’s individual needs. Our primary focus is to make sure our students grasp the major concepts behind the material. If you memorize something you can pass a test, but if you learn something, it will stay with you a lifetime.

At Little Smarties, we also stress the importance of positive reinforcement both from the instructors during tutoring sessions, in the classroom, as well as in the home. Everyone is capable of being successful academically; sometimes it just takes a different approach.
