Tutor Personal Information

My name is Andrew. I am 22 years old and was raised in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado.

Educational Background:
I graduated from high school in 2006, and pursued my higher education at the University of Denver. I graduated with departmental honors from DU in June 2010 with a BA in Mass Communications with an emphasis on Film Production, and a minor in Marketing with a focus on advertising. I am currently applying for various graduate programs to pursue a masters degree in Education.

Teaching Experience:
While in high school, I worked for over a year for a professional tutoring service, and have continued tutoring on a relatively consistent basis through college, in subjects including English, History, various forms of art and music. Additionally, I have worked for the last 3 years through a non-profit, teaching young artists the craft of film production, as well as the valuable life skills that can be learned through a cooperative art form such as film. Through this same non-profit I have been a guest instructor at over a dozen high schools in the greater Denver area. Currently I have around half a dozen tutoring students, and am looking to expand my tutoring base.

Tutoring Specialties:
I am most interested in tutoring students in SAT/ACT as well as PSAT/NMSQT preparation. I scored in the top 1% in the nation on these tests, and was able to afford college largely due to my test scores as well as my National Merit Scholar Qualification. I would love to tutor students to help them achieve high test scores so that they may have similar doors open. Additionally, I am an experienced public speaker, ranging from being a national circuit debater in high school through being a guest speaker in front of the Colorado Film Commission. I am adamant about the power of developed public speaking skills, and would love to work with students of all ages to teach this extremely valuable skill.

Additionally, I am well versed in some of the less standard admission tests such as the SSAT and ISEE.

Teaching style:
I am comfortable in front of a class,working with one student on an individual basis, or working with small groups. When teaching I am highly energetic, and have a wide base of knowledge to draw on to help almost any student relate to the subject matter. I do not get easily flustered or frustrated, and am willing to take any amount of time to help a student accomplish a goal.
