My formal education has been both classic and experiential, or, based on book learning and hands-on, using learning in the real world. My experiences as an artist, working journalist, and scholar have informed my teaching style which encourages students to make learning an active part of their real lives. Getting the basics in learning is like working on a foundation, using that learning in real life is moving into what we have built. Practicing skills and navigating the world using our learning is mastering education and being able to meet the challenges in our everyday lives.
