Tutor Personal Information

I make sure to approach every student as an individual. For me, a first tutoring session is usually somewhat of an assesment. After I know the student's level, I am able to make lesson plans for each session. I am very patient and understanding of difficulties in academics.

Currently, I tutor ESL and teach an SAT preparation class for underprivileged inner-city high school students. I tutor at least 10 ESL students on a regular basis through Skype and in person, and I have another 10 or so that come and go. My verbal SAT class consists of 7 students, and my math SAT class has 5. I am able to work with students who have learning disabilities, especially ADD or ADHD, or are in remedial classes, but I also work with quite gifted students. I can also deal with minor behavioral issues, though I'm neither comfortable nor qualified to work with students with major behavioral problems.

I consider myself to be a fun, responsible, and motivating tutor. Although I take this work very seriously, I realize that students need to have fun in order to learn the material well, especially students without much motivation. I am generally very punctual and reliable.

I tutor both online through Skype and in person. In the summer I tutor in the Blackstone Valley area of Massachusetts, and during the school year I tutor in the Amherst/Northampton area. I do not drive, so my rates are cheaper if the chosen location is closer to my house, because then I don't have to bother anyone with driving me or spend a long time on the PVTA.

I honestly enjoy tutoring and teaching. I love spending time with students, especially when something clicks. I hope you will consider me as a tutor for you, a relative, or your child.
