Tutoring Style and/or Experience
Throughout twelve years of my teaching career, I had the opportunity to instruct high school students of a diverse group and with a variety of learning styles in the Washington DC Public School System. Through the participation of workshops,
professional development, and teaching experience, I learned
to create lessons and activities that accommodated all types of
learners. In DC, we use standard-based curriculum. My greatest
strength is my ability to stimulate the participation of all
students by creating a stress-free learning environment. I
constantly praise my students for their effors, which creates
a sense of assurance in them and leads them to participate. In my lessons I use fun learning manipulatives, as much as I can,I
try to use authentic material, and different types of technology
to enhance their language skills. I am also a native speaker of
the Spanish language, from Cuba. I take pride in always sharing
my language and culture with my students. I always express to
them the importance of communication through the understanding of culture and language. I hold valid Certification in Spanish until 2012.
