I have been teaching philosophy (logic and non-logic courses) for ten years, and have been privately tutoring students for the same amount of time. In logic courses I focus very tightly on forming a structure within which the student can be productive. In non-logic courses I focus on argument analysis and construction, both with an eye to essay/paper writing and to class participation.
