Tutoring Style and/or Experience
I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic, where I attended a British bilingual school and graduated as the Valedictorian of my class. This earned me a scholarship to Manhattanville College where I received a degree in Chemistry, minors in Fine Arts and Math, along with a concentration in Pre-medical studies. I am currently pursuing a career in medicine. Having a diverse background and a mature personality I am able to help those of different ethnic backgrounds as well as all age groups.
My experience as a tutor dates back to my High School years in the Dominican Republic, where I taught Spanish to English-speaking incoming students, aided teachers with pre-K to 6th graders, and also became a peer tutor.
Throughout my vast years teaching, I have learned that patience is key. I tend to make my sessions laid-back and conversational, yet leaving students feeling accomplished and motivated. I truly anything can be learned with the right instructors, despite how difficult a subject may seem.
I use my own text book for Science, as well as the textbook being used by the student; I also have some supplemental material I use depending on what the student is learning. I like to encourage critical thinking skills by incorporating more advanced subjects as well as everyday examples in the Sciences. I love to engage my students in the discussion by asking questions, encouraging analytical thinking as well as encouraging students to question anything they may be confused about.
