Tutoring Style and/or Experience

I use an interactive tutoring style that varies based on the need of the student.

For students seeking a general review of subject matter, I use a comprehensive two-way "discussion" of the concepts to help pinpoint and address any areas where the student's understanding is weak.

For students seeking help with specific concepts or problem solving techniques, I teach by example. I use specific problems - from homework, tests, or supplementary materials - to teach general concepts. In this way the student comes to understand the theory and how it is applied to real problems.

My Background: I am a scientist at a national research institution. I have a Master of Science degree in Physics from New Mexico Tech. I also hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Astrophysics with a Minor in Math from New Mexico Tech. Prior to beginning my independent tutoring business, I was a physics laboratory instructor at the college level. I have also tutored college physics students in weekly drop-in help sessions.

I tutor math from 6th grade to college-level calculus. I tutor physics and basic science from 6th grade to college-level.

I tutor students in person; I do not tutor online or over the phone.

I invite you to contact me for additional information.
