I believe it is important to identify these and utilize them when encouraging a child to explore a new concept and apply that knowledge. Application is key to understanding and tied into that is relevancy. Often students find it hard to be motivated if they do not see the relevancy or real-world application of what they're learning. I encourage them to discover the relevancy, prompting when necessary.
