Tutoring Style and/or Experience
Greetings!
I am an AMI Certified Montessori guide and a former elementary and secondary (social studies) teacher with over ten years of tutoring, mentoring and teaching students at both the elementary, secondary, and collegiate levels. I have a Masters in Montessori Education from Loyola (ranked 3rd in North Regional Universities) and a B.A. from Carnegie Mellon University, the only top 25 school founded in the 20th century.
I am Kaplan trained in one-on-one SAT and ACT preparation; 3 month test prep packages available with a guarantee of increased performance.** Can also provide PRAXIS prep for aspiring teachers. In addition to my training on standardized exam testing, I scored within the 95th percentile on all three exams.
I feel that the best approach is a holistic approach that will address the individual student's entire learning program. If a student is lacking in only one specific area, I can design a tutoring program that will recognize the student's strengths and use those strengths to build skills in the areas necessary to achieve subject mastery. I focus on building the skill rather than solving the individual problem. The goal is to move the student away from a focus on the solution to an individual problem to proficiency and then mastery of the skill that problem requires. After this shift is achieved the student will be able to conquer any problem within that skill set! Often, many of the approaches and techniques I teach help improve performance across other subject areas. Most importantly, I provide one-on-one instruction that is tailored to the specific needs of the student and presented in an effective way.
Approaching learning from a Montessori point of view, I prepare my own lessons and materials specific to each student. I often include visual, hands-on types of materials for teaching abstract concepts.
I am patient, and able to vary my approach until I find what works for you.
I hope to hear from you soon!
