Tutoring Style and/or Experience
I have been actively tutoring math and science for the past 5 years, and I received the highest level of tutoring certification available from the college I previously worked at. I recently graduated from college with my BS in Biochemistry Magna Cum Laude. I have learned that different people have different learning styles; some people quickly grasp a topic, and for others more time is required. When tutoring, I work at the student's pace, and I make sure that I break everything down into the simplest concepts. I also try to create mnemonics that will help students to remember material when possible. For example, many people sometimes confuse the terms oxidation and reduction when dealing with chemistry. One term deals with a loss of electrons and the other deals with a gain of electrons. In order to easily remember this, I use the mnemonic: LEO (the lion) goes GER. This stands for: Lose Electrons Oxidation and Gain Electrons Reduction. I would also explain to the student why these names are used so that they are able to acquire a deeper understanding of the material. I believe that things are best learned when they are understood at a deep level, and when I teach new material I try to make connections between what is already known and what I am currently teaching. I am very patient; and wherever you are in your studies, I promise to do the best I can to get you the grade and level of understanding that you want. I also understand that, as students, many of us do not have a lot of extra money, especially with the way the economy is right now, as such my rates are negotiable -- to a point. If you have any questions about anything feel free to contact me, and I will get back to you soon. Take care, and best wishes to you in all that you do.
